Call-out for Scarborough / North Yorkshire based dancers

by Zoë Leigh Gadd

We are looking for three confident and striking dancers, preferably with experience of dancing outdoors or in non-conventional spaces, to take part in a 10-minute looped dance theatre work (repeated 3x per hour) on performance days. A choreographer will work with the dancers to devise the performance, focusing on our theme for the Aquarium of Light installation. Inspired by the ocean, we are working with a local sculptor and community groups to create a lit installation that fills the bandstand area of Scarborough Spa Suncourt. The dancers will perform in lit sculptural costumes and enhance the installation through live performance in and around the installation.

We welcome expressions of interest from professional dancers of all backgrounds, although you must be over 18 yrs and willing to adapt and respond to the unpredictable conditions that outdoor performance may present. We are seeking expressive performers who are able to work independently, once the work has been devised. There is the scope for one of the dancers to take on the role of ‘dance captain’ once the work is produced.

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals will take place during the last week of October (specific dates & venue to be confirmed) over two days in Scarborough.

Dancers must be available to perform between the following dates (you will be required on site between 5pm – 7:30pm):

December 5th, 6th & 7th

December 12th, 13th & 14th

Fee information available upon application

Dancers must be able to commute to Scarborough as accommodation is not provided as part of the commission. There is scope to cover reasonable travel expenses where essential.

To apply please send a recent showreel or link with your expression of interest (no more than 200 words) using the subject line ‘Scarborough Lights Dance’ to info@danceahead.co.uk by 5pm on Monday October 7th 2024
