Woodland Wonders: another magical week!

Woodland Wonders at Carlisle Friday Market – another magical week! 🧚‍♀️🌿

Friday brought another wonderfully busy day at our Woodland Wonders Community Market Stall, filled with creativity, conversations, new friendships… and even a few surprises!

One particularly exciting piece of news is that Kendall received a reply to her letter to Sherbatella — and Sherbatella has accepted her invitation to come to the market!

So next Friday 28th August, keep your eyes peeled around Carlisle city centre and see if you can spot a certain silver fairy exploring the stalls…

We were also delighted to welcome David Allen, Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, who visited the stall and presented me with a certificate alongside the first sample edition of our Woodland Wonderers Activity Book, published by our friends Michelle Russell and Richard O’Neill of Trails of Tales that Travel.

Beth and Darcy from The Cumberland Community Fund also came along to explore the stall and hear more about the projects their generous support has been helping us bring to life. They even left with their very own copy of Sherbatella’s Activity Book Sample Edition!

And following on from last week’s visit upon a unicycle, Johnny Goggles the paratrooper came to life as a 3D print, courtesy of The Hobby Hoarder! Some of the wonderful children visiting the stall were lucky enough to take home their very own exclusive Johnny Goggles, complete with an important mission: make him a parachute! 🪂

Throughout the day, children added leaves of kindness and encouragement to Sherbatella’s Washing Line of Hope, coloured fairy-themed pictures and simply took some time to stop, create and play.

Perhaps one of our favourite parts of these Fridays has been the conversations. We’ve met so many people through the stall and continued getting to know our fellow traders, many of whom now feel like new friends. We really can’t wait for Sherbatella to meet everybody next week!

One final Woodland Wonders Friday…

Friday 28th marks the final week of our Woodland Wonders Community Market Stall before our attention turns towards World Fun Fair Month in September.

With the International Market also arriving in Carlisle next week, the Friday Market will be split across the city, with stalls in the Cathedral grounds and at the top end of English Street, around Sweet Retreat/Barnardo’s — so there will be plenty to explore, whilst you look out for Sherbatella. She’s rather attracted to Fairy Sawdust’s stall and may even have an activity for you to try out in their fairyland, so don’t miss out!

Then, from Tuesday 1st – Monday 7th September, we cordially invite the people of Carlisle to pop into our World Fun Fair Hub at Intro, Paternoster Row for a week of funfair-themed celebrations, history, displays, activities, giveaways and more. 🎠

This will be our second annual celebration of World Fun Fair Month, and Carlisle is fast becoming a real focal point for the festivities.

We’re once again inviting local shops and businesses to join in too — create a funfair-inspired window, run a themed offer or activity, and jump aboard the Carlisle Merry-go-Round!

Let’s bring a little positive playfulness to the city this September.

Dates for your diary:

🧚‍♀️ Friday 28th August – Meet Sherbatella at Carlisle Friday Market
🎠 1st–7th September – Visit the World Fun Fair Hub at Intro, Carlisle

Keep your eyes peeled for lots more details over the coming days!

And finally, a huge thank you to everyone who has visited, chatted, coloured, created, shared stories or simply stopped to say hello during our Woodland Wonders Community Market Stall this summer. We’ve had a blast.

Now we just need Michelle to show Sherbatella around all her new market friends…

Although we hear she may have borrowed a little money from the Tooth Fairy so she can sample some of the traders’ goods while she’s there!

We can’t wait!
